NEW Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Full Coverage Concealer – First Impressions/ Review & Swatches

Urban Decay’s new concealer offering is here…the All Nighter Waterproof Full Coverage Concealer (UK* / IE*). It seems like an age since they launched it’s predecessor and cult favourite, the Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer (UK* / IE*)! Complete/ full coverage it is not in my opinion…but I still really like the Naked Skin Concealer (as do so many others!) and that’s the main reason I was interested in trying the new All Nighter version! Obviously there’s the All Nighter Foundation (UK* / IE*) too, that was back in August 2016 (I have a full first impressions here)…but I just haven’t reached for that one as much as I though I might have at the time really. It’s not even that I don’t like it now (I should really revisit and give it another go!) but probably more so that there’s just been a lot of other foundations come along and get in the way I guess??

Anyway…you know me and foundation, concealer, base products in general…obviously I had to try this!

The All Nighter concealer tube comes in the same, sleek gunmetal cut out design as the foundation. Straight off, one of my favourite things about this concealer is packaging related and it’s the super satisfying snap closure of the tube…no danger of drying out or going all over the place in your makeup bag! Practical, travel friendly and pretty from the outside already anyway. It has a typical, regular sized doe foot applicator which according to UD has ‘a little well at the end that provides a precise lay down’ of product…the product does apply well and precisely, but a well? It’s not enough of one to make a real difference in my opinion, the doe foot looks average as far as I can see.

Here’s everything else you need to know about the All Nighter Concealer…

➕ Available in 14 shades from fair to deep.
➕ Full coverage with a matte finish.
➕ Higher level of pigment than the Naked Skin Concealer.
➕ Long wearing.
➕ Water resistant (…although the name says waterproof)
➕ Light diffusing pigments for a soft focus finish.
➕ Cruelty Free.

Let’s start with the shades…14 of them and in both warm and neutral shades. I haven’t had the chance to swatch all of these myself, but from what I’ve seen the majority of shades even neutral lean more towards the yellow side of things. An important thing to note (as with a lot of other high coverage/ high pigment formulas) is these do oxidise/ dry down deeper! I have the shade Fair Neutral and could have probably gone for Fair Warm too, but any of the light tones would have dried down way too dark for my skin, especially my under eye area! I’ll include a photo bellow of Fair Neural dried down and freshly applied, look at the difference!?

Fair Neutral and Fair Warm are the lightest shades in the range, so definitely something to bare in mind if you’re much paler than me. For reference I’m KVD Light 43, Huda Panna Cotta, Too Faced BTW Snow, UD All Nighter 1.0…fair with warm undertones basically. This is one that you should swatch yourself if possible and just make sure you leave it dry down before deciding on your shade. Urban Decay even say this and that if in doubt you should go for the lighter of the two that you’re stuck between. Even if you’re medium – deep…you’re going to have more choice of shades obviously (which is great), but still watch for that oxidisation! That aside I think if it didn’t dry down a bit darker, I might be stuck between two shades and could have nothing that works for me…without that I think the Fair could have looked really chalky!

You do only need a tiny bit of this…the coverage is brilliant, definitely on the fuller side for a liquid formula! I’ve tried it on bare skin to spot conceal for a quick day time face, but I prefer using this for a flawless finish over foundation. I’ll stick to something less matte and more skin like for concealer only days, like Tarte Shape Tape or Wet N Wild Photo Finish Concealer* . I like how the All Nighter Concealer stays put once it’s in place but feel like you don’t get an awful lot of play time, although it does blend out beautifully! Perfect with a brush (like the Zoeva 142 Concealer & Buffer Brush*) or a damp beauty sponge (NYX does a great one*) but work fast and an area at a time! The All Nighter Concealer benefits from being set with powder…I always use the Kat Von D Beauty Lock It Brightening Powder In Petal (UK* / IE*)…but then i think all under eye concealers do. It keeps it in place, stops your mascara/ liner from transferring and makes sure creasing doesn’t happen. With this having such a matte finish and considering i’ll still want to set it, it’s just a case of making sure your under eye is as hydrated as it can be to stop any cake and no one wants to look ancient with too much product under around the eyes either! If you do have a particularly very dry under eye, maybe this isn’t for you.

I do like the Urban Decay All Nighter Concealer (UK* / IE*) so far and can see myself reaching for this way more than the foundation version for sure! It’s unlikely I’d use them together actually, there’d be too much heavy and too much matte going on for my liking! Although my skin is combo and especially oily on my nose…I’d rather blot and top up than have something super matte that’s going to make me look flat. It does look flawless and perfect for pictures, really smooths and brightens. I might even try mixing this with other formulas to get colour/ coverage spot on…maybe concentrate a dot of this just on the inner corners where most of my darkness is. It wears well, but does end up looking a tad bit drier than some of my other faves at the end of the day. Definitely joining my regular concealer rotation for now and I’ll keep you all up dated either way!

Will you be trying it?? Let me know what you think!
