Back In Action After A Week Back In The Homeland…What I Got Up To In Wales!

We had my mum and dad visit us here in Cork last month which helped take the edge off, but I hadn’t been home home (Mold, North Wales) since I moved over in March, so this trip was well over due! As much as I love Cork (I really do! It’s such a cool, welcoming place and if you haven’t been…I’d highly recommend a visit!), my heart is in the Welsh hills and I miss home like crazy at times! I love to travel and experience new places, but anyone that knows me knows I’m a proper home bird!

Because it’s been a while since I was home this time, I feel like we didn’t do as much as we usually would… but it was just so good to hang out/ catch up with family and friends and chill out to be honest after the busy/ crazy of this year so far! And although we were only passing through Dublin on the way to and from the ferry, we had chance to drop in to Nic’s parents’ too and see them which was also good! I’ll be back up in Dublin soon enough though, so more about that then. We didn’t get to catch up with everyone we wanted to at home or in Dublin, but looking forward to the next time.

A big part of the reason I went home when I did is weddings! Although it was technically a holiday week, I did have two long standing bridal makeup bookings that I was really excited about. Both completely different style wise, equally as beautiful and an absolute pleasure to do! (I was thinking of maybe doing some dedicated bridal makeup blogposts, featuring my brides and what they went for, pictures etc…let me know if this’ something you’d like to see!) Of course they ended up both being on the same day, but fortunately time wise it worked out and crazy/ tiring a day as it was…I loved creating their bespoke perfect bridal looks and seeing everything come together on the day for them!

I was also booked in and excited to go see my friend, hair expert and boss lady at ME Hairdressing Amie for general catch ups and for her to work her magic on my hair that was desperate for some colour and TLC…serious Worsel Gummage going on! If you’re in the North West Wales/ Cheshire area (or let’s face it, anywhere…I travel from Cork and I know other people travel to be seen by Amie too) and are looking for a real hair perfectionist in a chilled, friendly salon…friend or not, I can’t recommend Amie/ ME Hairdressing enough! Another good friend Beth had booked in at the same time which was cool and then we went for a proper catch up, shop and lunch after. I didn’t really buy much during the week at all apart from a few kit and makeup bits from the brand new Superdrug near home in Broughton Park, but I did pick up a solid facial cleanser which I’m really looking forward to trying from a shop called Just Footprints that Beth introduced me to…Chester’s first zero waste, single use plastic free shop. So much stuff in there and well worth checking out if you’re making changes and trying to reduce your waste…like we all should be!

Another Beth recommendation, for lunch we went to a cool little taco place in Chester Market…Death By Tacos. Sooo good! Veg/ Vegan options. I ate there twice the week we were back…Nic wanted to try it too and I wasn’t complaining! And who doesn’t love a taco?! While on the subject of food…we also had a Chinese takeaway one night from Harvest Vegetarian Kitchen, North Wales’ first 100% plant based takeaway. I’d been wanting to try it for ages and the fam had already tried it/ been raving about it…I wasn’t disappointed! Hands down the best Chinese food I’ve ever eaten and well worth the 20 minute drive to collect it! Co-owner and truly lovely person Jane Lee is a best selling author no less and knows her stuff when it comes to food! Even if you’re not Vegan/ plant based/ veggie, their food is so good you NEED to try it! Among other things we had salt and pepper ribs, crispy chilli beef, sweet and sour king prawn (all Vegan)…delicious!!

As well as all of this good stuff, we made sure to get outside and get our nature fix…there’s nowhere like North Wales for that! It was so good to be home and even with the bit of ‘work’ that I did, it was the best week for chilling out and catching up!

What are your plans for the Summer?
