Glow Gold: NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer – Back In Stock! (Review/ Why I Love It!)

Short but sweet…I wanted to talk about one of my all time favourite primers this week, seeing as it’s back in stock (it’s been not easy to get hold of at all annoyingly for the longest time!) and it’s way easier to pick up now at Cult Beauty…the NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer*. I was even getting to the stage of rationing my current bottle because it’s always been out of stock!

I first used it a few years ago and have been in a state of confusion (bit dramatic there aren’t we?) as to why it disappeared so suddenly! Especially with all the other similar and way more spendy versions floating around (in case you didn’t know, the HDMU Primer is flecked with real gold flakes similar to a whole bunch of high end ones doing the rounds at the moment that are at least twice the price of this one!) and the fact that the NYX one is cruelty free too was a major selling point for me!

It has all the good stuff…light reflective glow giving gold flecks, healing honey extract, Collagen for elasticity, Hyalauronic Acid for hydration…all the buzz words of now and ingredients we all look for in a skincare/ priming product! The HDMU Primer is everything NYX stands for…high preforming, but easy on the purse! You only need to use a small amount even when you’re not rationing it in case you run out and can’t get more haha.

It’s inspired by the golden hue of honey (as well as containing honey extract – so not Vegan, but I’ve included some Vegan primer faves bellow) the NYX HDME Primer is formulated to…soothe and neutralise discolouration/ redness, illuminate/ give a dewy glow to the skin, infuse moisture/ keep skin looking plumped up and feeling smoothed as well as firming and fighting signs of ageing and fatigue. It’s water based and also contains Glycerin which acts like a magnet to makeup…sounds perfect right?? Is it??

In a word…yes! I feel like it’s one of those things that once you use it, you don’t want to be without it! Don’t let the thought of honey and the worry of it being sticky put you off (it even looks a bit that way when you get some out with the spatular/ first apply it and I too had those sticky concerns)…it’s absolutely not and sinks in to the skin beautifully leaving just the right amount of tackiness to give your makeup a good grip. It smells incredible and not really of honey at all (which I’m not keen on personally) and instead more of a citrus/ essential oil esq light floral spa clean scent which I love! It’s not overpowering and you can’t smell it once it’s settled on to your skin. My combo/oily skin always feels balanced when I use this and I find I get less oil breakthrough throughout the day as well as any drier areas feeling hydrated and smooth. The glow it gives isn’t super obvious, but it’s definitely there. I mean there’s no flakes of gold visible once your makeup’s on (or on bare skin once you’ve massaged it all in properly) but it just leaves you looking radiant and refreshed as well as any texture and uneven tone gone!

Even though the NYX HDMU Primer’s water based, I’ve found that it works well with pretty much all foundation formulas I’ve tried it with. If my skin’s feeling dull and in need of a pick me up, this is my go to. I’ve tried not not mention this one on here as much as I’d like over the past few years of using it…there’s nothing worse than someone raving about something you can’t get hold of right?? There’s quite a few primers that I often re-introduce in to my makeup routine depending on their qualities and how I want my makeup to look/ last, but the NYX HDME Primer has been a consistent in my regular primer rotation and is a great all rounder.

Along with other steady faves (and of course these are all cruelty free – KVD and BECCA primers are Vegan options too)…

✖ Kat Von D Beauty Lock It Hydrating Primer (UK* / IE*) – perf if I’m feeling drier or if I want to sheer out a fuller coverage more matte foundation formula.

✖ BECCA Backlight Priming Filter* – pretty much a photo filter in primer form, soft focus finish and anti fatigue…great for if your skin’s hungover from life and general tiredness.

✖ Fenty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer – pore diffusing, shine stopping and a must for me for days when long wear is needed and oil slick is not!

I mix primers too and have spoken about it before…not so much physically mixing formulas together, instead priming different areas with a different formula to suit the needs of that bit of skin (the joys of a combo skin hey). So I might use the Fenty to control oil on my t-zone and a bit of the BECCA or NYX to give radiance and glow everywhere else. Use it where you want it isn’t it!

The NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer* is well worth a peep and a go in my opinion. It’ll last you ages and is one of those products which is a pleasure to use! Get it (and enviable glow skin) now from Cult Beauty* or the NYX website (UK / US). If you try it/ have tried it too, let me know what you think!
