NEW Kat Von D Beauty Metal Crush Extreme Highlighter Palette! First Impressions/ Review & Swatches (Inc. UK/ IE Launch Date/ Info)

EDIT: The Kat Von D Metal Crush Extreme Highlighter Palette is now available online from Debenhams in the UK* and Ireland*.

There’s so much of the Kat Von D Beauty good stuff launching over the next few months! Saying that, pretty much no month goes by now without something new/ exclusive/ drool worthy arriving and making us want (need) it!

KVD Beauty is one of those brands (for me personally as a makeup pro, collector and long time obsessive!) that I’ll be interested in the majority of their new launches. You can rely on the brand for innovative formulas/ products, crazy good range of shades/ textures, impressive pigment time after time and always cruelty free! I know the packaging is a massive selling point for most of us too! If someone asked me to do a 1 brand full face, I’d have no problem with KVD!

So as you’ll have guessed from the title, I recently picked up a few new KVD bits and thought I’d get you guys up close and personal with one in particular if you don’t have it/ haven’t seen it properly yet and share my thoughts on it too.

I obviously (you know me and highlighters by now!) had to get the Metal Crush Extreme Highlighter Palette…I also picked up the Fawn Shade + Light Eye Quad (Fawn is sold out at the time of writing 🙁 ). I know eyeshadow palettes are kind of my thing too (what isn’t my thing really, I know) but I’m also completely aware that I don’t need another…I wanted to get this one though as it seemed like a compact, everyday wear, universally flattering and handy for travel/ condensing my everyday makeup bag. I got mine from Sephora (currently sold out there too) which came in an exclusive duo with a Tattoo Liner in Trooper too, which is my go to anyway so worth having a back up of that too.

Anyway, let’s have a closer look at that highlight palette!

First thing’s first…that packaging!! KVD Beauty never disappoints when it comes to packaging. Everything looks like a work of art and pretty much always is, with Kat herself designing and creating the majority of the packaging design/ artwork. The outer packaging and actual highlighter palette share the exact same gorgeous and super eye catching holographic finish. The palette itself feels really sturdy which is a good thing considering how soft and buttery the Metal Crush powders are! (That’s great obviously, definitely what we want a highlight/ powder to feel like but also makes them more fragile!)

The Metal Crush Extreme Highlighter Palette is ‘super-limited’ edition and is inspired by KVD’s best selling Metal Crush eyeshadow shade, Thunderstruck (UK* / IE*). I generally prefer Thunderstruck more as a highlighter than eyeshadow anyway. Each of the 3 shades is loaded with hyper reflective micro crystals for light catching dimension to your skin and they sparkle and shift with every move you make!

➕ Gammaray – peach base with pink and gold crystals/ shift
➕ Helix – ethereal opal base with gold and silver crystals/ shift
➕ Roseshock – pearlescent pink base with lavender and pink crystals/ shift

The MCE highlighters are a liquid to powder formula, very creamy feeling and blend out really smoothly! Now I’m normally not a fan of a glittery highlight at all…the micro crystal particles in these mean they definitely lean towards the glittery side of things, but for once I’m actually not mad at it! I still prefer a non-glittery highlight day to day, but depending how you apply these you can get that too!

If you use a brush and apply it minimally and dry like you would with other formulas, it will look pretty but definitely more glittery…you can build it up to be a dewy highlight you could see from space though! The more you apply, the more metallic and wet looking rather that glittery it goes…it’s as if the particles link up which results in a pretty damn magical (and non glittery) mirror like glow! Using it wet with give you a similar effect using less product or just by buffing it on to your skin with a denser brush (something like the Zoeva 110 Face Shape Brush*) after foundation/ cream base products, but before any powders. It goes on really well with a damp beauty sponge* too!

Highlight Shade: Gammaray from the Kat Von D Beauty Metal Crush Extreme Highlighter Palette

If you really don’t like super reflective highlights or are completely apposed to the idea of glitter of any kind, this probably isn’t the palette for you…try the Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Thunderstruck (UK* / IE*) though! It’s a more subtle glow and really pretty on most skin tones. If you’re willing to experiment a little to figure out how it applies best for you and like a stronger glow…you’ll like this. I actually like it way more than I thought I would and all 3 of the shades are actually way more wearable than you’d think. It probably won’t be my everyday go to highlight, but it’s gorgeous, different and I really like the texture and finish from them! Perfect for the holidays…I’ll be using it as eyeshadow topper too and it can be worn over lips products. The shades look stunning mixed with other highlight formulas too, they add an extra pop and that shift of skin brightening colour. It’s a must for KVD Beauty lovers/ collectors and worth having if you’re a highlighter hoarder like me!

It’s limited edition so don’t hang around. The Metal Crush Extreme Highlighter Palette’s available now from Sephora and from 26th December in the UK/ Ireland (UK* / IE*).

Will you be picking it up?
