As I’m writing this, the brand new Kat Von D Go Big Or Go Home Mascara is sold out on the KVD Beauty website…but fear not UK and Ireland KVD/ makeup/ mascara fans! If you get your skates on (I mean, it’ll be restocked but if you wanted to get your hands on it right now and I can totally see an initial sell out here too!) it’s available now at Debenhams UK*/ IE*.
I picked it up as soon as it launched (from KVD Cork and braved the lashing sideways rain on said launch day…dedication haha) and have been putting it through it’s paces this past week. I was excited to try the GBOGH mascara and was totally in to the hype. This 100% Vegan extreme volume mascara looked really good, had impressive and promising claims and I’m really feeling the launch visual featuring Dominican-American OITNB actress Jackie Cruz looking fierce in a KVD Outlaw red lip (minimally retouched, makes a change) and massive GBOGH coated natural lashes (not an ‘in-fill’ false lash…that so many other companies use on their promotional material in sight!). Check her out bellow (this was in store at KVD Cork, Ireland)…
So what do we need to know about Kat Von D Go Big Or Go Home Volumizing Mascara…

So first thing’s first…that packaging. KVD’s definitely gone for large and in charge with both the tube and the brush (kind of the lash effect I was hoping for too with this)! The tube itself is super chunky but lightweight matte black with ‘Go Big Or Go Home’ in the signature KVD gothic font embossed full length along the tube, sleek, stylish and functional too. I was so happy to see that it was going to have a bristle brush, I’m not the biggest fan of plastic/ rubber spiky mascara wands. Now the wand/ applicator on this is big (not the biggest I’ve tried though) but with it’s slightly tapered shape, it’s really easy to control, easy to apply and doesn’t go all over the place which a lot of larger brush mascaras do! I curl my lashes everyday without fail and usually opt for a waterproof mascara as it’s the only thing that’ll properly hold a curl but for a non waterproof mascara, this does a really good job of keeping them not flat! Ps. KVD are coming out with a waterproof version of this too!!
KVD recommends to grab lashes at the root and wiggle the brush through to the tips, building up the level of volume, length and intensity you want. This is how I apply every mascara, but for such a full on formula I’m impressed at how separate and fanned out your lashes look with this. It’s not even a super dry formula (a lot of super volumising mascaras can be dry from the get go in order to achieve the promised effects, but can then dry out really quickly which sucks, especially with spendier/ high end mascaras!) probably thanks to it’s olive/ sunflower oil base, yet stays put and actually doesn’t smudge or flake…impressive!
The KVD GBOGH Volumizing Mascara is comparable in size and price to one of my other favourites (Milk Makeup’s KUSH High Volume Mascara*…FYI a waterproof one of these is about to launch too!) and a similar price, but with 2ml extra product than the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara UK*/ IE* which I also do like. As cool as big fancy tubes look (sucker for packaging), I hate when it’s all packaging and less product for your money…not the case with this!
Here’s my before and after…on the left, zero mascara (my lashes are so invisible and blonde!) and on the right after 2 coats of KVD GBOGH (which is typically the amount I’d wear most days).
After curling my lashes (as always) I applied the first coat and it went on really nicely, straight off the bat my lashes looked huge! No clumping, no smearing on my lids. I find the brush controlled enough to use on my lower lashes too, bonus! I went in with the second coat and it built perfectly…it wasn’t crispy and layered without sticking together in some sort of gross mono lash situation! Lashes were super black, had full on volume and it definitely opens up the eyes and gives great definition (it made a huge difference in the picture above, especially as my eye makeup that day was so simple/ natural/ barely there otherwise). I did build it up further after this, still with no clumps just seriously impressive lashes. Another thing I always judge mascara on is ease of removal…there’s no point having an amazing mascara that then takes either 3 hours to remove or takes half of your own lashes with it…GBOGH removes easily with my normal dual phase eye makeup remover (usually this one from Superdrug or something similar and cruelty free ofc) which is excellent news for my sensitive eye balls!
Love how it looks, love how it wears…the Kat Von D Go Big Or Go Home Volumizing Mascara is available now UK*/ IE*/ USA and well worth a try in my opinion! If you’re still making up your mind (and can make it in to a KVD counter) go try it on (they should have disposable wands that mimic the actual applicator so you can test it and get a better idea of how it goes on/ will look) I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
Have you tried Kat Von D Go Big Or Go Home Volumizing Mascara yet or thinking about picking it up??
