It was the packaging of the Catrice Rock Couture Extreme Volume Mascara 24h that caught my eye first…the cap has a very Kat Von D Studded Kiss vibe about it! I spotted it at Penney’s (Primark) the last time I was over in Dublin and picked up both the regular and waterproof versions to try based on packaging alone haha…it being less than €5 was a bonus too, curiosity got the better of me and I had to give them a go!
Catrice is widely available throughout Ireland (in pharmacies and some larger Penney’s stores)…I know it’s not as readily available here the UK but as well as Amazon* (what can’t you get on Amazon?! – but FYI…it’s way cheaper elsewhere) there’s a few other places that stock it online too, try here. It’s super inexpensive, cruelty free and actually pretty damn good hence wanting to talk about it!
I did open the tester when I was in store, so no surprise…but faced with a plastic moulded wand (which I usually hate) it surprisingly still didn’t put me off. The wand is big, more fluffy than spiky poke your eye out esq and the product itself on the wand looked smooth, not at all clogged like it would apply nicely and spoiler alert…it did!
I usually go for a bristle brush and often a waterproof version (bit more spendy, but I love the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof mascara! (UK* / IE*)) so finding something that doesn’t transfer (cause so many do) is a big thing for me and I always look for something that holds a curl which waterproof tends to do well. I like the waterproof version of Rock Couture, but the regular version with it’s 24hr claim is more than enough. Easy to remove, but lasts all day without a smudge in sight! I’ll stock up on the waterproof version for my pro kit, especially for bridal makeups!
The Rock Couture mascara is super black, gives instant volume and length and holds your curl really well. It layers perfectly without going crispy, so you can go for a naturally full single coat for day time wear or a few coats for extra drama. Like with most mascaras I’ll wiggle the brush from side to side and the brush separates and catches every single lash. Here’s some big creepy close ups of my eye, but I just wanted you to see what a coat of this does!
The Catrice Rock Couture Extreme Volume Mascara 24h does everything it says on the tin (or tube)! As with everything I test, realistically I’m never going to wear any kind of makeup for a full 24 hours to put that claim to the test…but the way I see it, it’s good enough for me if a product stays in place all day until I remove it which this definitely does! It visibly opens up the eye and finishes any eye makeup perfectly, building your lashes without clumping. It’s not vegan but is cruelty free and in my opinion one of the best affordable/ drugstore mascaras I’ve tried in ages! Well worth a try if you’re in the market for a new one. Maybe try this before your usual if high end/ spendy! I hope Catrice keep this one around, as I’ll definitely want to pick up more!
