Before I get in to it…it’s been really hard to cut down to just 5 products!! I’ve used and loved so many NYX products over the years. Being a US ‘drugstore’ brand, it used to be so much harder to get hold of and I’d have to pick things up online/ in the US when ever I could and even more recently, in store when over in Dublin (a basic range was stocked in select pharmacies Ireland wide and still only certain places online in the UK). A few of my local (when in Dublin) pharmacies stocked a basic range, so fortunately, I was able to get some of my most used, but now, praise to the makeup gods and I’m sure you’re all aware by now…NYX has landed at a Boots* near you! It’s available UK and Ireland wide in store, as well as being able to get your NYX essentials online at other places like ASOS and Feel Unique too!
Cutting down to a top 5 was hard, especially with NYX being really on top of the high street/ drugstore game right now and coming out with what seems like a constant stream of exciting new product launches! Although it’s been in UK and Ireland for a good while now in store and a lot of you will be familiar with the brand and their best products, (especially as it’s a talked about brand on social media and YouTube) I know a lot of you aren’t and I do get asked what’s worth picking up and what I use myself. So here it is, 5 of my favourites!
The NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette in Warm Neutrals (Available at Boots*). These perfect for travel eyeshadow palettes are available in 4 different colour selections, but this is my favourite by far! It’s a pro- quality palette, containing 16 shadows, in a variety of textures from matte to metallic and has everything you’d need to create any eye look from natural every day to smokey and everywhere in between.
Next up, the NYX Matte Liquid Liner (Available at Boots*). Blackest of black and long wearing, this liner offers a matte finish (which is unusual as most liquids have a glossier look) and super precise application thanks to it’s ultra fine brush tip. Equally perfect for creating a dramatic, bold wing or just a beautiful everyday definition. With it being a liquid, it does take a little extra practice than a gel or pen (which they have too), but with the brush being flexible, you do get more control with this one than others.
The Stay Matte but not Flat Powder (Available at Boots*) has been one of my long time NYX loves! I try so many other powders, but always end up going back to this one. It’s technically a powder foundation, however for me, it doesn’t quite give enough coverage, but as a setting/ blot powder, it’s works amazingly well. I do use it alone, just over concealer sometimes. It just does exactly what it says on the tin! It doesn’t leave your skin looking cakey and flat and instead, give a beautiful natural matte finish. You can touch up frequently and it still doesn’t look super powdery. It does come with a sponge (which is great if you really want to build up coverage), but I like to use a small powder brush and polish it on to the skin!
Love this stuff! It comes in a matte finish version too, but the NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray (Available at Boots*) is my favourite! So affordable compared to similar high end setting sprays and works just as well to keep your makeup in place and looking fresh! The reason I prefer the dewy spray, even though I have a more combination/ oily t-zone skin type, is that because I tend to go for a more natural matte base, it just takes away any hint of a powdery finish and gives my skin glow and a bit of life. Brilliant for using pre highlight too for a perfect lit from within glow and for using on your eyeshadow brush to intensify metallics and pigments!
So this last spot, instead of an individual product, is dedicated to NYX lip products in general, which is where I think as a brand, they excel! Now I do have my own personal faves, which I’ll get in to now in a minute (I was going to edit that bit, can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this before, but now in a minute?…I know right, doesn’t really make sense, but I’m Welsh and it’s a Welsh thing…you might read this from time to time, it’s not a typo, ha) but in my opinion, if you’re in to store, I’d have a swatch of any lip product that catches your eye and chances are, it’ll be a good one! I’m a big fan of their lip products. My most used include, the Slim Lip Pencils (Available at Boots*), Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks (Available at Boots*), Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks (Available at Boots*) and the Butter Lip Glosses (Available at Boots*). A great option too if you find traditional liquid to matte liquid lipsticks drying, is the Soft Matte Lip Creams (Available at Boots*), which are a liquid lipstick, but don’t completely dry down and stay creamy on the lips. There are colour options for everyone and every colouring in every collection, from nudes, to classic red and vampy, to even the more out there pops of colour! Perfection!
I hope if you’ve ever walked past a NYX stand and just been overwhelmed with choice or even been unsure what’s good and what will work for you, that this might make things a little easier and encourage you to pick up a few bits and try them for yourself. This isn’t a sponsored post, I just really like the majority of NYX products and the price point is amazing for the quality of product you get! As well as the products mentioned above, if you’ve read my Top 5 Foundations Post you’ll know I’m a massive fan of their BB Cream (Available at Boots*), their primers are also worth a mention, as are their Jumbo Eye Pencils (Available at Boots*). Let me know if you have any NYX favourites you’d like to share!
