You all know me and know I’m a sucker for a good nude lip. Like the meme that goes around about only having two lip moods, either nude or dark and vampy and nowhere in between…absolutely me! Wearing a deep lip, although I do love it is a rare enough occurrence though, nude lips are everything!
You’ll have gathered from the title that it’s not only a nude lip I’m about, I’m a massive matte lip fan too. I’ll rarely wear gloss and will normally either be seen rocking nothing/ lip balm or if I’m wearing colour it’s nearly always matte! I like the finish and look of matte, but also the way you don’t get your hair stuck in it and it just stays were it’s supposed to!
So yeah, I do have some consistent favourites and am always trying new shades and formulas, but these little beauts are just ones I’m using a lot and obsessed with at the moment. In no particular order.
Kat Von D Beauty Studded Kiss Lipstick in Noble*
This packaging though! The Kat Von D Studded Kiss lipsticks are not only aesthetically pleasing (Kat came up with the black studded tube design after being inspired by her own favourite studded cuff), in the age of liquid lipstick they hold their own and offer a damn good formula and great staying power for a classic bullet lipstick. I own a good few of these, but my most used and the one I always go back to is the shade Noble. Noble is a matte light petal pink nude. Too light for some maybe, but I love me a pale nude (you could pair it with a slightly deeper shade of liner if you did find it or any nude too light). It’s long wearing, pigment rich and has the classic (delicious and not over powering!) KVD Beauty creme brulé scent. It has a very soft, cushiony feeling on the lips and is matte, but doesn’t dry your lips out. Cruelty free, as with all KVD products and Vegan.
Kat Von D Beauty Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow*
I’m going to get this one out of the way now as you’ve probably seen it many times before and have heard me talk about it often! Bow N Arrow is my all time favourite nude! The Kat Von D liquid lip formula in general is probably actually my absolute favourite. Non drying and comfortable on, it claims 24 hour wear, which let’s face it I’m never really going to properly test but I just know it’s going to stay put all day which is good enough for me! Bow N Arrow is a beautiful nude fawn shade, just the right mixture of warm and cool and pretty universally flattering in my opinion. I wear it alone and sometimes as a base to some of my lighter nudes. My signature shade! Cruelty free and Vegan.
Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick in Child Star*
The shade Child Star is described as a matte soft nude, it’s lighter and more of a pink toned nude than my beloved Bow N Arrow. Ultra matte and opaque, the Melted Mattes don’t dry out your lips and have a really smooth plumped out finish (it’s infused with a no-sting plumping and smoothing agent). Although they are long wear, these don’t last as long on me as some other brands do however I find that you can reapply/ top them up without flaking or caking which is good. This shade works well with pretty much any eye makeup look. I’m not a fan of the slight chemical scent of these, but it’s completely unnoticeable once on/ dried down, plus the colour is pretty enough to turn a blind eye (or nose) to that too. Lime Crime Velvetines Liquid Matte Lipstick in Cashmere*
Last of the liquid lipsticks, Cashmere by Lime Crime…it’s a long time favourite of mine. It’s just the perfect grey beige nude and I’m all about the ‘greige’! The Velvetines were inspired by the pigmentation, feel and look of a rose petal. One of the most comfortable formulas out there and it lasts…similar to the KVD, this lasts for hours! Infused with French vanilla it feels super luxe and velvety and Cashmere in particular flatters a wide variety of skin tones. Great if you want nude, but also something a little different. Cruelty free and Vegan.
Essence Long-lasting Lipliner in 08 Girl Next Door (Available from Essence or Wilko)
Not only is this lip liner bargainous (it’s around £1.50/ €2) it’s long wearing and feels really comfortable on! It’s an automatic/ self propelling liner so no need to sharpen and although you can obviously use it to trace out, define or over line your lips as you would obviously expect, it’s also beautiful as an all over lip colour. That’s the way I like to wear it. This colour is the most perfect light beige nude, doesn’t look overly lipliner-y but still gives your lips good definition. Love this one! Cruelty free.
MAC Cosmetics Colour Rocker Matte Lipstick in Mud Wrestler
I feel like I’ve been waiting for this lipstick shade all of my makeup wearing life! During my over 12 (!!) years working at MAC, there’s been so many shades that have come so so close but never quite right. This Mud Wrestler shade though, ticks all the boxes for me and is perfect, exactly what I wanted! Described on the MAC website as a creamy neutral beige, it’s just that and gorgeous! Part of the recently launched Colour Rocker range (which is permanent…yasss!), so even if this light nude isn’t your cup of tea, as well as their extensive basic business main lipstick selection, there’s also 27 other high impact Colour Rocker matte shades, white to black and every nude, bright and bold in between! I love the way Mud Wrestler is slightly cooler than my other preferred light nudes from MAC! Long wearing and great to layer over darker shades/ lipliners or it’s perfect for touching up liquid lipstick when it starts to wear off save having to fully remove it.
